We put up the tents and have diner around a campfire with the rest of the team. Mint tea heated directly on the glowing embers. Didi is working miracles in the dark and serves a delicious soup followed by couscous with Camel meat (we don’t tell Maëla exactly what animal she is eating!). All off to bed. The tents are nice and cosy.

Wednesday 8

Difficult getting out of bed. Its not very warm (the sand is cold!). We need to pack everything up and we are not quite used to it yet (sleeping bags and tents!). We arrive in Ghat to obtain the necessary papers to enter the Akakus. We do an interesting visit of the old Medina and the fort. Plenty of Touareg shops selling artifacts (the Touareg are all very tall, distinguished looking with their local garb!).
