And then its the gradual increase in speed as we seem to top off at Mach 1.96 We seem to hover there forever as we impatiently wait to exceed twice the speed of sound. I am lucky, on some flights, Concorde hovers just below Mach 2 for the entire flight. This time we not only broke twice the speed of sound, but we actually reached 2.02! Few passengers resist the temptation of getting their photograph taken in front of the machometer. The landing is also quite an experience. Concorde does not come down like a regular aircraft. Concorde's position during landing is similar to its position during takeoff. The delta wings serves as an air cushion to help the aircraft glide down to the tarmac. We are greeted by rain in New York as if the skies were crying, wishing Concorde a glorious retirement... Concorde is the fastest passenger airliner in the world. It is also one of the fastest aircraft in the world. Few fighter jets can actualy keep up with Concorde. It is indeed a sad thing to see such a beautiful bird go...
