Concorde:  An amazing piece of technology that has now been retired.

As an aircraft financier, I was lucky to be invited by Air France to fly on the penultimate flight of flight 007 from Paris to New York.

Although I am quite a globe traveler, this was my first on Concorde.

And what a first!  Concorde is everything it is said to be.  

Beautiful, sleek, fast, quite confortable in fact...

Most of all, Concorde has class!

As we prepare to board, the ground staff of the Airport and of Air France gather around the aircraft to take some final shots before the end.

There is a lot of emotion in the air as people are visibly saddened by the news of Concorde's announced retirement.

As we taxi along the runway, cars, trucks, vans, people are gathered along the taxiway waving goodbye and taking photographs.  

Flight 007 will not be taking off from Charles De Gaulle airport again.  Today is Monday, and the aircraft will return Wednesday to be retired.

Take-off is quite an experience.  The Gs appear significantly more important than on a regular aircraft.  I had the impression I was glued to my seat.  

The aircraft climbs quickly to its cruise altitude of 18 000 meters while the crew elegantly serves caviar to the passengers.  

As we reach the costline of France, a faint slowdown at mach 0,97 as the pilot ignites the afterburners, and we cross the sound barrier at Mach 1.0

No sound, nothing... we are over the speed of sound!
